Clarion Alley Mural, San Francisco
The End Will Come, mural, collaboration with Lena Wolff for Clarion Alley Mural Project, San Francisco, CA. 15 x 25 feet, 2005.
Clarion Alley has been an enchanted site at least as far back as the early sixties when artists like the Cockettes and Terry Riley performed in the same warehouse that the Clarion Alley Mural Project (CAMP) was based in until its demolition in 2001. CAMP was established in October 1992 by a volunteer collective of six North Mission residents. Today CAMP is run by a loosely-knit group of volunteers that includes founding members Noble, Rigo 23, Pastor, and artists Andrew Schoultz, Megan Wilson and others.

Vigil to End All Wars
In the spring of 2005 I created a street performance in protest of the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The central character, Vigil Deer, is an antlered doe. She is clothed in red, the color of martyrdom and blood as a reminder of the suffering caused by war. The iconography of this project stemmed from a series of deer encounters during the rutting and hunting season, and the subsequent discovery of a hermaphroditic deer species, known as the Velvet Horns, who live peacefully in alternative communities.
Indonesia Mural, Sama-Sama Project
In 2003 six San Francisco artists from the Clarion Alley Mural Project traveled to Indonesia to paint murals and collaborate with a group of contemporary Indonesian Artists. This mural, Captive Hearts Fly Free, was designed and painted by Ryder Cooley with the infinite support and contributions of Arya Panjalu, Alicia McCarthy and the Apotik Komik Collective. The mural occupies four sides of an electricity unit built during the Dutch occupation. Wooden birds fly in the rafters and real cages hang from the roof of this work. The imagry references third-world first-world tensions and questions notions of freedom and captivity. This exchange was organized by San Francisco artist Megan Wilson.
